What is a flash drive?

What is a “Flash Drive”

According to webopedia.com, a flash drive is:

“A small, portable flash memory card that plugs into a computer’s USB port and functions as a portable hard drive. USB flash drives are touted as being easy-to-use as they are small enough to be carried in a pocket and can plug into any computer with a USB drive. USB flash drives have less storage capacity than an external hard drive, but they are smaller and more durable because they do not contain any internal moving parts.”

Webopedia does a fine job of summing up what a flash drive is, but there is more. A flash drive can be your memory all piled into one little device, because sometimes it is easier to carry your thoughts in your pocket. For example, any citizen could use the flash drive to store recipes, bank information, important emails, and the list could go on; but more importantly, everyone has a reason to own a flash drive. Many schools and businesses are using them, because every employee can go from classroom to classroom, or office to office, and still have all their data. Flash drives can be used by all, and that is what makes them such a great device.

This great device could also be a huge life saver if your computer crashes. If an individual backs up all their important files on the flash drive, they will not need to worry if their computer crashes as they still have all their information. Yes, this is what some people used “floppy disks” for, but flash drives are the new and improved form of a floppy disk. They are stylish, sleek, and very inexpensive for the work they do.

I think everyone needs a flash drive, and someday they are going to be a necessity in the work place and on all school campuses. Everyone has their own meaning to what a flash drive is, but it is the meaning that makes them so important.
